Christopher is the head of the Fish Inspection and Quality Control Unit, Seychelles Bureau of Standards which is the Seychelles Competent Authority certifying the export of Fish and Fishery Products in Seychelles. His main responsibility is to plan, organize and control all the activities related with the official control of fish and fishery products for export mainly to the EU market. As a whole his unit has the responsibility to ensure that all the different segments of the production chain comply to the requirement of the Export of Fishery Products Act, 2010 of the Seychelles which is equivalent to the EU regulations on Fish and Fishery products.

Christopher represents the unit in intersectoral/departmental meetings and represents the country in international meetings such as that of Codex Committee on Fish and Fishery Products. He is also responsible for the  preparation of quarterly and annual reports, preparation of budget for the unit, liaising with DG SANCO on issues related to export of fish from the Seychelles to the EU, as well as being the Rapid Alert Contact Point for the Seychelles of the RASFF and also President of the African Network for  Fish Technology and Safety (ANFTS).

 

Christopher monitors the work of fish inspectors, which includes the performance of sanitary inspection and audits of fishing vessels, landing sites, cold stores, processing plants, transports etc, the frequent collection of samples for analysis of different microbial and chemical parameter as stipulated by the legislations, approval of establishments and vessels, approval of HACCP plans for freezer vessels and processing plants and issuance of health certificates for export of fish sand fishery products.
